Congratulations to Jean Delva, January’s Aide of the Month! An eight year veteran of FCS Home Care Services, Jean began his career as a Certified Home Health Aide (CHHA) after immigrating from his native Haiti following the 2010 earthquake. Prior to coming to the U.S., Jean was a government accountant, but without a license to practice in the U.S., he was unable to find work in the field. A friend encouraged Jean to attend an open house at FCS, and after meeting the staff, he decided to give Home Care a try.

“The nurses and staff treated me with such respect and kindness. They gave me the confidence to do this job, and I do it with pleasure,” Jean smiles.

Jean was named Aide of the Month for January for going above and beyond the call of duty for an extremely physically challenged home-bound client.

“Jean provided assistance for the client’s doctor to enable him to examine his client at home,” FCS Director of Nursing Linda MacPherson explains. “This enabled the physician to assess and treat this client’s condition which may have otherwise gone untreated.”

For more than 60 years, FCS has provided home care to frail, disabled and aging individuals throughout Monmouth County. We currently employ 70 CHHAs and supportive care aides to meet the needs of more than 153 clients. All of our CHHAs must successfully complete 76 hours of specialized training, pass a competency evaluation and undergo a criminal background check before becoming certified and licensed by the New Jersey Board of Nursing.

Jean says in addition to the training, the most important part of delivering quality home care is trust. “My clients and I trust one another. They trust me to care for them with dignity, and I trust them to treat me with respect and kindness.”

A father of three, Jean’s passion for learning didn’t stop with becoming a CHHA. He has since completed training to be a certified medical technician and is currently studying for a degree in Business Administration at Brookdale Community College.

“God blesses me, always,” Jean adds. “Where one door closes, he opens another.”
