Congratulations to our April Aide of the Month, Betty Gadson! Betty has been a Certified Home Health Aide (CHHA) with FCS Home Care Services for seven years. Formerly a trained Certified Nurses Aide (CNA) with a local nursing facility, Betty says she prefers providing care for her clients in the comfort of their own homes.
“I really get attached to my clients,” Betty explains. “I help take care of them, but what they really want is companionship. They enjoy having someone who they can talk to and share their stories.”
For more than 60 years, FCS has provided Home Care Services throughout Monmouth County for elderly, frail and disabled individuals. The agency currently employees more than 60 CHHAs and supportive care aides who care for over 130 clients, a majority of whom qualify for home care grant assistance. All of our CHHAs must successfully complete 76 hours of specialized training, pass a competency evaluation and undergo a criminal background check before becoming certified and licensed by the New Jersey Board of Nursing. CHHAs work under the guidance and direction of a Registered Nurse and must undergo training in personal care skills, including bathing, dressing, shopping, meal preparation, Range of Motion assistance and a variety of other tasks. The NJ Division of Consumer Affairs requires that all who provide hands-on personal care services be certified.
Betty was selected Aide of the Month because of her outstanding service to Home Care, particularly for her willingness to fill scheduling gaps when they arise.
“No matter who, what, when or where, Betty never refuses to help a client in need,” FCS Director of Nursing Joanne Quinn explains. “She is always gracious and our clients are very fond of her. We are grateful for her compassion and service.”
For her part, Betty says she really likes working for FCS. “I enjoy the support I receive from the office and the yearly in-service trainings they provide to aides.”
Thank you, Betty, and congratulations!
