For more than 50 years, FCS Home Care Services has been assisting vulnerable clients throughout Monmouth County, many of whom live alone with limited resources and little support from family or friends. Our Certified Home Health Aides, Supportive Aides and Registered Nurses make it possible for our clients to continue to live at home, safely and with dignity, with the evolving physical and mental limitations associated with aging and illness. But when hazardous weather hit, new challenges arise.
In the wake of the impending blizzard, our nurses and staff are contacting each client to insure that they are prepared in the event of a prolonged power outage, or in case travel restrictions make it impossible for an Aide to safely reach them. Each client has special circumstances that may need to be addressed, but our nurse’s advice to them extends to anyone who may be living alone during this storm.
- Make sure all necessary prescriptions are filled and medication is within easy reach.
- Have enough food and water on hand to last for at least three days.
- Have a working flashlight with batteries nearby in case the power goes out.
- Have extra blankets available, as well as gloves and a hat.
- Know to call 911 if an emergency does happen.
If you have an elderly friend or neighbor, please be sure to check in on them throughout storm. Home bound seniors are much more prone to injury, illness and hypothermia. If you think someone is experiencing hypothermia or another medical emergency, contact 911. Let’s take care of one another as best we can, so that all of us are safe and cared for during the storm.
