For more than twenty years, Arlene and Maurice “Butch” Lospinoso have rallied an impressive crowd of their closest friends and family to turn out for their annual Day at the Races fundraiser at Monmouth Park Racetrack benefitting FCS. On Sunday, June 30, the guest list reached a record breaking 210 people who were brought together to raise funds for essential FCS programs and services, including protection for vulnerable adults, home care for the frail and elderly and school-based volunteer programs designed to promote childhood well-being.

“It was another wonderful year for FCS Day at the Races,” exclaims Arlene.  “We hit an all-time attendance record with guests that included the many familiar friends and family who have come for years, and lots of new faces too.  It’s such an enjoyable and relaxing day and it’s all for such a worthy cause.  It is really gratifying to see so much support from the community year after year.”

As popularity and support for Day at the Races has grown, the event has graduated from its once held smaller room to its current location in the park’s expansive Turf room which overlooks the racetrack. Guests were able to avoid the heat and enjoy a buffet lunch, place bets at the private betting windows and watch the races all in the comfort of an air conditioned space. This year’s guest list included FCS board members and their friends and families, the Navarumsunk Auxiliary and a generous amount of Arlene and Butch’s extended family and long-standing friends from early school days, parish, bridge club and neighborhood.

“What a great way to help celebrate FCS’s 110th anniversary – with an ever-growing number of Race enthusiasts,” says FCS CEO, Colleen Verriest, LCSW.  “Of course, the day would not be possible without the tireless efforts of Arlene Lospinoso and her husband Butch, and we are endlessly grateful for their continued support.  Day at the Races is such an important annual tradition and it’s a great opportunity to bring people together to raise funds for the benefit of the agency and just enjoy each other’s company.”

Other upcoming FCS fundraisers scheduled for this year include: Sleighbells in the Sand, Wednesday, July 10th at Monmouth Beach, Bath & Tennis Club; the FCS Golf Classic, Monday, August 26th at Rumson Country Club; the Navarumsunk Auxiliary Bridge Benefit, Wednesday, September 18th at Rumson Country Club; and the FCS Leading Lights Gala, Saturday, November 16th at Navesink Country Club.
