Home Care Service receives Full Accreditation

FCS Home Care Service

The New Jersey Commission on Accreditation for Home Care (CAHC) has granted full accreditation to Family & Children’s Service’s (FCS) Home Care Service, giving it high marks for maintaining the highest standards of quality care for its clients and their families. CAHC is a nonprofit accrediting body that insures industry standards for home care services throughout the state and accredits agencies that meet those standards.

While accreditation is currently voluntary, FCS Director of Nursing Susan McDermott R.N. says choosing an accredited agency is an important first step in selecting a home care provider.

“If you are entrusting someone to care for a family member at home, you want to be certain they are reliable, trustworthy and qualified,” Ms. McDermott explains. “At FCS, all of our Certified Home Health Aides (CHHAs) must meet language proficiency requirements, undergo a criminal background check and possess certification from the New Jersey State Board of Nursing before they begin working for us.”

Since 1958, FCS has provided Home Care services throughout Monmouth County for seniors and individuals with mental health, developmental and physical disabilities.  The agency currently cares for over 169 seniors and disabled clients, almost 90 percent of who qualify for home care grant assistance provided by the Monmouth County Division on Aging, Disabilities and Veteran’s Services.

At FCS, our CHHAs work under the supervision of our registered nurses and must follow the care plan they designed specifically for each client. CHHAs are qualified to provide assistance with Activities of Daily Living, such as bathing, dressing, hair, skin, nail, oral and catheter care; checking for pressure areas; reminders for medication; ambulation and mobility assistance and range of motion and positioning.  CHHAs can also shop for and prepare client meals, help with laundry and perform light housekeeping. FCS Home Care Services also employs Supportive Aides who are not qualified to provide personal care, but can help with light household chores and meal preparation.
