When Arlene and Maurice “Butch” Lospinoso throw a party, everyone shows up! This past Sunday, despite the blistering heat and humidity, the Middletown couple rallied more than 180 of their closest friends and family to attend their annual “Day at the Races” fundraiser at Monmouth Park Racetrack benefiting FCS. Butch, an avid horse racing fan, and Arlene, a former Chair of the FCS Board of Directors and president of the agency’s Navarumsunk Auxiliary, have been organizing “Day at the Races” for more than 20 years to raise funds for essential FCS programs and services, including protection for vulnerable adults, home care for the frail and elderly and school-based volunteer programs designed to promote childhood well-being. Their efforts have resulted in thousands of dollars in support for the agency.
We are so pleased to announce that former FCS Board Chair and our current FCS Navarumsunk Auxiliary President Arlene Lospinoso was recently awarded the Junior League of Monmouth County’s 2016 Women Making a Difference Community Volunteer Award! The JLMC initiated the award three years ago “ …to recognize the many valuable contributions being made by women volunteers in our local community.” Arlene was one of 15 women nominated for the award by representatives of area nonprofit organizations.
It is with great pleasure that we will be honoring Susan Sorokolit, faithful volunteer, enthusiastic advocate, and gifted relationship builder, with our 2015 Lifetime Service Award at this year’s FCS Gala, “E Komo Mai o Hawaii,” or Welcome to Hawaii, Saturday, October 24 at the Navesink Country Club.
On Sunday, August 23, friends of Family & Children’s Service (FCS) gathered at Monmouth Park Racetrack for a “Day at the Races,” hosted by our treasured friend and volunteer Arlene Lospinoso. Each year, the event seems to draw more and more people and this year was no exception with 140 guests in attendance. The event attracted friends and family of FCS to support the agency. It was a fun filled day of watching the races and included a deluxe buffet lunch in a private Parterre Level 1 Turf Room. Thank you to all who attended and we hope to see everyone again at next year’s event! See more photos.
On Thursday, August 13, Kathy Goullet, owner of Lotus Way located at 825 River Road, Fair Haven, hosted a Girls’ Night Out for the benefit of Family & Children’s Service (FCS) where friends of the agency gathered for an evening of shopping, refreshments and conversation. Kathy is also an FCS Board Member. Avery Brighton of Shine Bright Studios volunteered her time and talent, giving shoppers an opportunity to have a professional photograph taken displaying their newly purchased clothing and accessories. Thank you Kathy Goullet, Lotus Way, and all the lovely ladies who attended the event! If you’re interested in hosting an event for FCS, give us a call.
I believe that every person on the planet has a unique ability to be an advocate for others. In my case, that advocacy is through art. Why art? Why not?! Art is an important vehicle for change. It teaches us history, challenges our minds to invent, and, I believe, brings us closer to understanding all that God, the most perfect artist, created.
