Golfers Tee Off for Charity at Annual FCS Golf Classic

Benefit Tournament raises vital funds for Family & Children’s Service

Golfers Tee Off for Charity at Annual FCS Golf ClassicNearly 100 golf enthusiasts teed off for charity on Monday, July 22nd at the Navesink Country Club in an 18-hole tournament to benefit Family & Children’s Service (FCS), Monmouth County’s oldest nonprofit social service agency whose mission is to serve people at vulnerable times in their lives through education, intervention, care and counseling. The annual FCS Golf Classic attracted dozens of golfers and supporters who turned out to enjoy a beautiful day of friendly competition, challenging play and serious fun. Monday’s event, along with the 9-Hole Women’s Shore Challenge which was held earlier in June, raises funds for essential FCS programs and services, including home care and caregiver relief, homelessness prevention, adult protective services and child literacy.

“We are incredibly thankful for the support and generosity of all of the golfers, volunteers, and sponsors who help make this day happen,” FCS Board Chair Debbie O’Donoghue said. “For 104 years, FCS has served our community. The money raised will help us continue to meet the diverse needs of area residents at all stages of life.”

This year’s Golf Classic co-chairs, Ronald Gillaspie, Anthony Frigoletto and John O’Donoghue organized a number of on-course activities and competitions for golfers including a $10,000 Hole-in-One prize sponsored by Boynton & Boynton, a brand new Hole-in-One car, courtesy Mercedes-Benz of Brooklyn, a Hit-the-Green Challenge sponsored by Wells Fargo Private Bank and Beat the Pro, sponsored by the Navesink Pro Shop. Other major sponsors included The Carr Family, Torcon, Inc., Flexcraft, RSI Bank, K Shaw Construction, Charles Komar & Sons, The Orthopedic Spine Institute and Dr. Michael F. Lospinuso, Servpro of Freehold and Frank and Brenda Mergenthaler.

Following the tournament, golfers enjoyed a cocktail hour and buffet dinner on the patio that included a chance auction, silent auction and 50-50 raffle. Prizes were awarded for longest drive, closest to the pin and low gross and net team scores.

FCS’s next major event and fundraiser, the annual gala, An Evening of Southern Elegance, will be held on Saturday, October 5 at the Navesink Country Club. FCS’s Navarumsunk Auxiliary will also host its annual Bridge Benefit and Luncheon on Wednesday, September 11 at Rumson Country Club. For more information, call 732-222-9111.
