Family & Children’s Service is proud to honor Mary Ann McDonald, a dedicated volunteer and faithful friend of the agency for nearly 20 years.
Mary Ann was first introduced to FCS in 1997 and quickly developed a passion for its Mission. She eagerly volunteered to chair the Summer Luncheon fundraiser for the agency. In 1998 Mary Ann was elected to the FCS Board of Directors, serving in a number of leadership positions on the Nominating and Finance Committees. She served as Board Treasurer from 2005-2007 and Board President from 2008 to 2009. Assuming leadership of the Board during the worst national financial crisis since the Great Depression proved an extraordinary challenge for FCS, an organization dependent on donor contributions. Under Mary Ann’s leadership, the agency reduced expenses and shored up resources to survive the economic downturn. Her stewardship led the Board to request that she be named Treasurer when her term as President expired, an appointment she graciously accepted.
Mary Ann’s tenure as President also included the agency’s 100th anniversary in 2009. She credits the Centennial Celebration with renewing connections with old friends and reaffirming the agency’s reputation as a trusted resource in the community.
Educated in the Jesuit tradition at Holy Cross College which stresses service to others, Mary Ann has also volunteered with multiple organizations outside of FCS including the Junior League of Monmouth County, the Board of Trustees of the Monmouth Beach Bath & Tennis Club, the Rumson Garden Club, St. James Parish and the parent teacher associations at her children’s schools.
We are grateful to Mary Ann for the untold hours she has dedicated to FCS; we thank her and her husband Tom for their continued philanthropic support of the agency, and her children Tom, Beth, and Sarah for sharing Mary Ann with us.
